What is the future of Alnico Magnets?

The Alnico Magnets have widely applications in industry and other fields.

In the early twentieth century, when without the Alnico Magnets, people mainly use carbon steel, tungsten steel, steel and cobalt chromium steel for permanent magnets.

In late thirties the twentieth centuries, Alnico magnets materials are successfully developed, only make large-scale application of permanent magnet materials possible.

In fifties, the appearance of Barium ferrite and Alnico magnets, not only reduces the cost of permanent magnets, but broaden the application from permanent magnet materials into the high-frequency fields.

In the sixties, the emergences of rare-earth cobalt permanent magnet open up a new era of the application of rare earth magnets (Alnico magnets).

In 1967, Strnat, from University of Dayton, successfully made the SmCo5 permanent magnets, which is marked the permanent magnet era.

In addition, not but the Alnico magnets, Cu-Ni-Fe, Fe-Co-Mo, Fe-Co-V, MnBi, A1MnC alloy were also used as permanent magnetic materials in history. However, the alloys have been rarely used as these alloys are not high, not low cost. Relatively, in the Alnico magnets, the AlNiCo, FeCrCo, PtCo such as alloy has been applied in some special occasions.

Currently, no matter the Alnico magnets, Ba, Sr ferrite is still the largest amount of permanent magnet materials. However, many of Alnico magnets applications are gradually being replaced by Nd-Fe-B type of material.
